ARTWORKS HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOL

ALL ARTWORKS STAFF, STUDENTS, FAMILY MEMBERS AND CAREGIVERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A FACE MASK OR CLOTH FACE COVERING AT ALL TIMES WHEN AT ARTWORKS (BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF OUR STUDIOS)

Please send your student in a face covering that they are comfortable wearing throughout their time at the studios. If forgotten, we will have some disposable face masks available, but these masks are standard sized surgical-style masks and may not be a perfect fit for every student. So, please do your best to remember to send your student with their own properly fitted mask.

ONGOING HEALTH MONITORING FOR ALL ARTWORKS STAFF AND STUDENTS AT HOME

Students and staff must commit to ongoing health screening and monitoring of symptoms at home prior to arrival at the ArtWorks studios.

  • We ask that parents are diligent about monitoring for any signs and symptoms of illness in their child and take their temperature before coming to class (any student with a temperature of 100 degrees or above will not be allowed to enter class). Please inform us and DO NOT SEND your child to class even if they are experiencing mild symptoms. Our staff will follow the same protocol.
  • Per the CDC, symptoms may include but are not limited to fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell and upset stomach.
  • Students (and staff) will have a second screening at ArtWorks, so please be safe and save a trip if your student is symptomatic in any way.

CHANGES REGARDING DROP OFF / PICK UP AND SOCIAL DISTANCING

In order to control the number of people on the premises at all times, please do not have your student arrive to ArtWorks any earlier than 5 minutes prior to the start of their class, and please pick them back up promptly after their class ends.

  • Unfortunately, the amount of courtyard, decking, and sidewalk space that we have for waiting students and families will be greatly reduced because of the need to practice safe social distancing. Therefore, we ask that all families are especially mindful when dropping off their student that there is the adequate amount of space needed to maintain 6 feet of social distance. At times it may be the best option to wait with your student in the car for a moment to avoid unnecessary congestion.
  • Our stairways will have signage to remind everyone to allow for a 3 - 4 stair distance between people and to wait if someone is coming in the opposite direction until they are off of the stairway.
  • Our waiting areas will be reserved for queuing students before classes. We are removing all tables, magazines and chairs. We ask parents/ caregivers to only enter the studios for drop off and pick up if absolutely necessary to limit our group sizes. If you have concerns about not remaining in the waiting area during your student’s class, please let us know and we will do our best to make safe accommodations.
  • We recognize that many of our families prefer to do curbside drop-off and pick-up with their child. If you choose to do so, please make sure to have a clear conversation with your child about all the above and also ensure that they are conscious about practicing safe social distancing while waiting.

TEMPERATURE READING AND ENTERING THE CLASS

When students enter the studio, they will queue up 6 feet apart according to the indicated signage and markings in the waiting area. It will take great patience from all of us to adjust to this slower entry into class. We will do our best to have our classes begin on time, but safety MUST be our primary priority.

  • Staff will be behind a protective shield at the front of the studio performing temperature readings for all students. Each student will be given hand sanitizer to rub on their hands while their temperature is being read.
  • Only "non-touch" (infrared) thermometers will be used to confirm student’s temperature
  • Per The American Academy of Pedriatrics guidelines, the range of "normal" pediatric temperatures should fall between 97.0 and 100.3. To err on the side of caution all students entering their ArtWorks class must have a temperature BELOW 100 degrees. If a student is outside of that range of 97.0 to 99.9, the student will not be allowed to stay for class and a parent will be contacted for pick up.We reiterate the importance of AT HOME screening prior to coming to class to greatly minimize the potential of this happening.
  • After temperature reading and hand sanitizing, students will be directed to enter the classroom and sit at their bench.

IN CLASS AND LEAVING CLASS

  • All student benches are now spaced 6 feet apart. Given this, we have adjusted some of the seating orientations in our classrooms to accommodate this necessity.
  • It is currently recommended that groups of children should not intermix with each other. All students will need to remain in their scheduled classroom. They will not be allowed to enter into another classroom to fetch any supplies, socialize, or to retrieve a friend or sibling.
  • We will do our best to continue to provide the quality and intimacy of teaching that ArtWorks has always prided ourselves on. However, in an effort to maintain 6 feet of social distance as much as possible between teachers and students we will be diminishing the amount of time that teachers sit down at students’ benches and increase the amount of verbal instruction.
  • Students will not be retrieving their own supplies as they had done in the past and student movement throughout the class and at cleanup with be greatly minimized or nonexistent. Students will remain seated except if they need to use the restroom or are instructed to stand in order to receive teacher assistance. Social distancing practices will be maintained during these interactions as much as possible.
  • Teachers will dismiss students individually in a controlled/ staggered manner to minimize congestion upon leaving the class. Teachers will monitor students leaving the studios.

SUPPLY USE AND LOTS OF HAND SANITIZER!

We are going to greatly minimize, but cannot completely eliminate, our students and staff touching some shared supplies. Our main method of defense will be for everyone to have clean and sanitized hands before touching any shared material, so our teachers will frequently give students a squirt of hand sanitizer throughout class.

  • We are dramatically increasing the amount of supply kits that we utilize with our students so that all supply kits can either be quarantined for a period of 48 hours or completely wiped down and sanitized prior to use by another student.
  • For some multi-use materials including, pencils, sharpies and paint brushes we will have a "clean" supply and a "dirty" supply. Dirty supplies will be fully sanitized and/or quarantined prior to use by another student.
  • If a fully sanitized material is not available for a student, we will adjust their program for the day and have them use an alternate material.
  • There are some materials that teachers will control and solely touch including curriculum binders, paint bottles, turpentine jars, etc. Teachers will individually disperse these clean/sanitized supplies to students.

INTENSIFIED SANITIZING, CLEANING, DISINFECTING, AND VENTILATION

  • When using the bathroom all students must put down the toilet seat prior to flushing and thoroughly wash their hands before returning to their bench. We will post signs to help remind students. Additionally, students will receive a squirt of hand sanitizer upon returning to their seat.
  • To help maintain air flow and keep our studios as ventilated as possible we will keep front doors open at all times while classes are in session.
  • We have installed medical grade air purifiers using H13 HEPA filters in every classroom.
  • Staff will disinfect and clean before / during / and after classes including but not limited to: door knobs (interior and exterior doors- especially the bathrooms), faucets (utility sink and bathroom), benches, side tables, and other surfaces.

OUR OFFICE

  • In order to protect our office staff and families, we will keep the glass counter window closed at all times when communicating with parents and students.
  • We ask that parents entering the studios or coming to the office also use the supplied hand sanitizer.
  • ALL CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE OFFICE will take place only in Studio E at this time. We will only have ONE Black Tuition Drop/Parent Note box in front of the office window along with the Absence/ Makeup and Parent Note forms. Those boxes and forms have been temporarily removed from our other studios.
  • We will have a "clean" and a "dirty" supply of pens at our office window.
